Prior to moving to Palm Springs, Bill lived in Austin, Texas, and with his son and brother managed family owned wholesale magazine and book distribution companies. The companies were the exclusive suppliers of all the magazines and books to all mass market outlets in their primary marketing areas. The Cochran family had distribution centers in Austin and in Wichita Falls, Texas. The family sold the companies in 1996. When Bill left the business, the companies had expanded their marketing area to include the entire state of Texas The truck fleet traveled 3 ½ million miles per year. Bill also served on several trade association boards. He was a board member of the Council for Periodical Distributors in New York, president of the Mid-America Periodical Distributors Association, and president of the Independent Magazine Wholesalers of the Southwest. Bill has always been interested in the performing arts, and in Austin was a founder the Austin Repertory Theater. He later served on the board of the State Theater where he helped the theater purchase a downtown theater for its new home. He also served on the board of the Austin YMCA. Currently, Bill is president of the Performing Arts Council for the Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Desert Museum. Bill is both a Broker Associate and a Realtor and has had a long history in buying and selling real estate. He has specialized in the renovation and marketing of luxury properties. He also specializes in investment properties. Bill joined Windermere because it is by far the most forward thinking and technologically advanced real estate company in the Coachella Valley.
